Fix Computer Making Beeping Noises

Sometimes when you turn on your computer you might just get continuous / constant sounds along with a Black screen, in this post we will look how to fix computer beeping on startup. This beeping sound does not come from the CPU it comes directly from the Ultramini speakers present on the motherboard. This basically indicates that something is wrong with the components of the computer. This is very common in newly built PCs with Windows 7 and 10 Operating systems.

So what does  this Beep noise / tone mean ? When you start turn on your system the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) will run a Power On Self Test (POST) , you might have noticed this as a one single beep which is normal then goes the general process of startup. This POST will check whether the components such as the RAM, Processor, Keyboard, Disk drive and other components are working properly, if only the components are working properly the computer will start to boot. If any fault / problem is detected by the POST the computer will start giving more than one single beep along with  black screen to indicate this error, such as giving 1, 2, 3 long beeps, some are mixed to 2, 3, 4, 5, short beeps. As you can see the number of times the computer gives the beep codes depends on the error type.

Now let's look at on How to Fix Computer Making Beeping Noises.

1. Faulty RAM

This is the most common reason for this issue. Sometimes you might use more than one RAM with different slots. When you install the RAM you may have not fixed it correctly into the slot. So try to remove and fix it firmly and see whether the error pursuits. 

If the still pursuits remove the RAM and clean the RAM leg with a cloth or a paper napkin, this time when you fix exchange the RAM with different slots. If you still not be able to fix this you have to replace the RAM with a new one. 

2. Faulty Graphics Card

The computers on default uses integrated graphics, when you buy a dedicated graphics card and try to install it you might sometimes get these beep codes with a black screen. To fix this you have to check whether the Graphics card is fixed correctly into the slots on the motherboard, to do this remove the Graphics card and fix it firmly. 

If the error pursuits check whether the cables from the Power supply are connected to the Graphics card correctly. If the error still continuous either your Graphics card has a problem or the Motherboard's Graphics card slot has a damage. 

3. Faulty Hard drive

In very rare occasions the Hard drive can encounter a problem and start sending Beep codes. The Hard drives can beep for several reasons such as Dust, so remove the Hard drive from the port and give a blow to the Port, Hard drive  and the cables with a Air compressor, by this way you can remove the dust. If the error pursuits try to plug in your Hard drive to another port because sometimes the ports that you are using might be damaged. 

If this cannot help then you have to replace the cable with a new one or use a USB Y - Cable.Other than this if the error continuous then you might need a Professional's help to repair the Hard drive and recover the data.

4. Power Supply Issue

Power Supply are the device which convert AC current to DC current, their outputs vary accordingly. Many Power supplys come with a manufacturers warranties of 5 to 10 years after this period the PSU might cannot be used. 

Sometimes dust  accumulation, overheating, short circuits and ventilation problems can also cause the Life span of the Power supply to be reduced. When this happens the Power supply may not provide the required Power needed to run the computer. eventually the Power supply may fail indicating with a Beep code. 

These codes may not always show when the PC is starting they can show even when the computer is running, preferably when you are using the Web browser. So the most preferred way to solve this is by replacing the PSU with a new one. 

5. CPU Failure

The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is known as the brain of the computer. It can also fail for some reasons such as the Lifespan. A normal CPU has a manufacturers Lifespan of 5 years it can be greatly lowered for some factors such as Heat, Overclocking and Electrical Power Surge. 

Make sure that the CPU fan is working properly and does eliminate excess Heat from the CPU, because some computers don't boot when the CPU fan is not working. 

Some people overclock the CPU for their purpose of Gaming, Photo and Video editing, it is always advisable to upgrade the CPU than to overclock it. And also make sure to protect your PC with a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) or any other battery backup, because the Voltage spike can cause the CPU to be a failure which ultimately drives to this kind of Beeping codes.

6. Blocked Air Vents

If you are a Laptop user never place the Laptop on a Bed or on your lap. What happens is when you place your Laptop on the bed or on your lap the Air vents which releases excess heat to the surroundings becomes blocked as a result the laptop faces overheating issue which ultimately drive us to the Beep code as a sign of alert. 

So always clean the Air vents frequently with a Air compressor and make sure it is not blocked and dust free.

7. Damaged USB Devices

Sometimes a faulty device can give this kind of error warnings. So what you can simply do is remove all the USB devices and try to turn on your computer. If your computer starts up in the normal process then one of these has to be faulty. So in the next step you can plug in the USB devices one by one and turn on the PC. In this way you can identify which device is damaged and at the end you can replace it.

8. Faulty Keyboard

The Keyboard which you are using may have stuck keys. Just make sure that there are no stuck keys present with your fingers or any pointed devices. Sometimes you might have spilled water unknowingly which also causes this error, then the option will be replacing your keyboard.
