AMD Vs Intel | Who is the Winner in CPU Race?

AMD Vs Intel | Who is the Winner in CPU Race?

Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the brain behind all the activities you do with the computer,
whether it is for gaming or basic works. Intel and AMD are the two leading processor manufacturers today in the market. Even though Intel was dominating the CPU market for the past decades, AMD is turning things around after the release of the Ryzen processors. You could see many reviews on the internet comparing these two.

The ongoing rivalry between Intel and AMD are under debate for PC enthusiasts. Whatever the brand of processors, certain types will not be able to support the motherboard. Therefore processor selection has an impact on all other computer components, which means that processor selection has an indirect effect on overall computer performance. Due to this, it is important to select the correct model from either of these giant CPU manufacturers.

In this article, I will be discussing about AMD Vs Intel | Who is the Winner in CPU Race? At the end of this article, you will know which is the best among processors such as AMD Ryzen and Intel i series.

Let's get started,

1. Performance

Intel's latest CPU releases are the 8th and 9th generation processors (also referred by the codename Coffee lake). Released by the years 2017 and 2019 respectively, the clock speeds can reach the maximum up to 5.0Ghz (Maximum known clock speed for a processor) . In future Intel plans to release 10th generation processors for the computer. At the same time to cope up with Intel, AMD released their Ryzen series processors. Over 50% of improvement was seen in Ryzen processors comparing to their previous FX-series types.

Apart from that in almost all of the computer works both the processors perform the same, showing no differences. Therefore it is extremely difficult to come to a conclusion that which is the best in performance. However for multithreading work load, AMD CPUs tends to perform better. This is because the latest Ryzen processors contains 50% of more cores.

When shifting to games, Intel's high end CPUs tends to overank AMD's Ryzen CPUs in handling high end GPUs merely by 5-10%. The reason for this is the advantage of Intel in terms of clock speed. Even though Ryzen CPUs contains more cores, mostly during gaming sessions these cores stays idle.

2. Price

On the price part, AMD processors tends to be more affordable than the Intel processors. You can easily go for a mid range Ryzen 7 processors for just 160 and high end Ryzen 9 processors for 499 . For an equivalent category Intel CPUs cost more. Perhaps AMD processors are great choice for budget gamers and individuals with basic computer needs. However Intel wins AMD in terms of speed and power.

Winner : AMD

3. Overclocking

Overclocking a processor means that making the clock speed function more than it should be. Therefore they can be made powerful than when it came out of the box. For overclocking you need a CPU that can handle both stress and heat well. Another major advantage of AMD processors is their overclocking capability. Which means that AMD CPUs can be overclocked easily.

Most Intel processors are locked at a fixed clock speed. Therefore it is made difficult to overclock these types of processors. But there are certain Intel processors labelled with X or K that can be overclocked easily. Apart from that both of the processors has their unique software for overclocking. Other methods include overclocking from the BIOS.

Winner : AMD

4. Specifications

Multithreading is a process in which the PC performs multiple operations and calculations in parallel series. AMD Vision and Intel i7 CPUs contain multicores that makes the PC perform multithreads. AMD Vision CPUs might have 4,6 or 8 cores, while Intel i7 CPUs only contains 4 cores.

But Intel CPUs are equipped with a function known as Hyper-threading. Hyper-threading is a process in which the CPU creates additional virtual cores for multithreading. Even though Hyper-threading does not boost the CPU performance, you can notice an improvement in speed if you are using an operating system that supports virtual processor threads.

Winner : Intel

5. Gaming

Intel processors has been dominating the PC gaming industry for the past decades. Not until the AMD's Ryzen introduction. As discussed earlier AMD CPUs are well known for their ability to perform multithreads but not for gaming. Latest games today are graphically demanding, which means that they not only relies on your GPU they depend on your CPU as well.

Processors with single core tends to perform more than multicores. In that case Intel seems to handle games well with their single core processors. But AMD too competes with Intel with their Zen 2 chiplets with 7nm micro architecture.
