The major advantages of a broadband connection is the speed it offers. Compared to a dial-up connection, a broadband connection is almost 100x faster. This high speed makes it ideal to be used for downloading large videos, music and other files.

2. Reliability

Unlike in a dial-up connection where there are frequent outages, broadband connection typically faces less failures. The data load that the dial-up modems suffer it is not present in a broadband connection. This makes broadband  a reliable type of connection.

3. Availability

A broadband is known to be a connection that is available 24/7. Once the user starts the computer, broadband connections are always available. There is no need to waste time by entering username and password. And also, the possibility of technical glitches are very less in a broadband connection.

4. Consistency

The speed offered by a broadband connection is so consistent that it is almost impossible to experience disconnections. Even in days of a bad weather, the users will be able to access the internet fine.

5. Interruptions

When using internet, a broadband connection causes no interruptions to the phone line. Besides internet access, the same phone line can be used for voices services as well. This is because the data line and voice line are separated to each other.

Disadvantages of Broadband Connection

1. Cost

A broadband connection typically costs more than a dial-up connection. The charges involved in a broadband is from monthly rental, irrespective of whether using the connection or not. Even though this solution looks great for people who are always online, it is certainly not for those who use less.

2. Speed

Although a broadband connection posses extreme speed capabilities, it cannot be guaranteed always. It also relies on the servers of a Internet Service Provider (ISP). Any downfalls in the ISP will definitely impact the broadband speed.

3. Security

Computers in a broadband connection is always made available which makes them vulnerable to security threats. Especially for wireless broadband connections. There is high possibility of hackers and other unauthorized people to access your broadband connection without your knowledge. Therefore, a personal protection such as a firewall is needed to make it secure.

4. Accessibility

Some people who are residing in rural areas have a problem accessing the broadband connection. Especially for ADSL and Fibre connections. This is because all the phonelines that is been used in a broadband connection is not supported by a DSL service.

5. Signal Strength

A wireless broadband connection most often suffers from low signal strengths since it has to pass through numerous obstacles. It needs to pass through walls, slab and roof which eventually weakens the signal. Sometimes environmental factors such as bad weather can also be a reason behind a weak signal.
