How to Fix Blue Screen Of Death | Stop Code Error

Blue Screen Of Death (also known as Blue Screen Error) is a critical problem faced due to the
crashing of the operating system. 

It is one such problem that windows was unable to troubleshoot and fix itself. Whatever the version of the windows you are using, all of them can be affected by BSOD. In fact older versions are more vulnerable to this. But older versions of windows gives a detailed information on blue screen error unlike newer versions. According to the version of the windows the look of blue screen error varies. Usually in the newer versions it will be mentioned as, 

'' Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart '' or

'' A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer ''

Along with this there can be informations about this error known as the stop code. Due to this, the blue screen error is also called as stop error, fatal system error, system crash and bug check. However there will be no chance for the user to read this as it will be displayed in a short time period. 

Sometimes the system will become freezed and unresponsive during BSOD which makes the user to force restart the machine in order to access the windows. Some of these errors can be completely resolved by the user himself and some needs the help of a professional.

1. Identify the Stop Codes


Most of the blue screen related problems can be easily solved by looking at the stop codes. Every blue screen error comes with a Stop code and a QR code. Stop code provides a general idea of what the issue is. Therefore according to the stop code the problem varies. Note down the stop code and search online if there are any solutions available.


2. Perform System Restore


Unnecessary changes made to the operating system may also cause blue screen error. Windows comes with a feature known as the system restore to roll it back. System restore repairs the faults due to software and drivers by reverting it back to the previous state. 

To perform a system restore,

          1. Turn on your computer.
          2. In the windows sign in screen locate the power button.
          3. Hold the shift key and press the power button at the same 
              time.
          4. Click on restart holding the shift key.
          5. Select Troubleshoot.
          6. Select Advanced Options.
          7. Press System Restore 


3. Restart in Safe mode


For trying out the below mentioned methods you need to access the desktop. Sometimes the blue screen error might prevent you from booting into the desktop. In this case the only way to access the desktop is by using the safe mode. 

Safe mode ensures that Windows runs only the basic configuration needed for it function.

To restart in Safe mode,

          1. Turn on your computer.
          2. Press F8 key in 1 second interval after heating the Beep  
              sound.
          3. Select Safe mode in the Advanced Boot 
              Options. 


4. Uninstall Recent Applications


One of the recently installed applications on your computer may be corrupted causing the blue screen error. To fix this uninstall all of the recently installed applications. Make sure to keep only the most important ones. 

Same can happen because of updates too. Therefore make sure to uninstall updates and check whether the error pursuits.


5. Remove Recent Hardwares


On the other hand, blue screen error may also occur due to a faulty hardware. This may include all of the internal and external hardwares. Check the recently added hardware devices for any kind of malfunction. If so remove the faulty hardware. 

And also remove all of the peripheral devices such as speakers, webcam, printers, headphones and USB flash drives. Make sure to keep only the most essential hardwares. This error can be a result of outdated drivers too. Therefore download the latest drivers from their respective websites.


6. Update Windows


Microsoft constantly releases new updates to fix problems related to blue screen errors. It is essential to make sure all of them are available. Most of the times the BSOD issues can be solved with these updates. 

Even though your computer downloads them automatically, some of them may be missing from your system. However you can manually try to update them to resolve blue screen errors.

To update Windows,

         1. Press the Start Menu
         2. Open Settings
         3. Select Update and Security
         4. Press Windows update
         5. Press Check for updates


7. Scan for Malware


Malwares can stay on your pc unknowingly and damage your files. Especially it can infect the Master Boot Record (MBR). When these files are damaged it will ultimately lead to blue screen errors. 

Apart from that some malwares are capable of poping up fake blue screen errors to trick the user of downloading the malicious program. Never fall into such traps of clicking them. Run for a full PC scan to identify and remove unknown malwares ruling out your computer.

8. Perform SFC Scan


System files present on your computer can become corrupted overtime. To fix this, Microsoft has introduced a feature known as the System File Checker. This SFC can take up to 30 minutes of time to scan your entire pc and repair the damaged files. 

To perform SFC Scan,

          1. Turn on your computer.
          2. In the windows sign in screen locate the power button.
          3. Hold the shift key and press the power button at the same 
              time.
          4. Click on restart holding the shift key.
          5. Select Troubleshoot.
          6. Select Advanced Options.
          7. Select Command Prompt.
          8. Type any of the following commands and press enter.

                 chkdsk c:/f/r
                 sfc/scannow
                 bootrec/scanos
                 bootrec/fixboot
                 bootrec/rebuildbcd
                 bootrec/fixmbr

          9. Wait until the scan completes.


9. Cool down the System


Components present on your computer especially the processor and the graphics card can get overheated quickly. To track the temperature the computer contains sensors, if excessive heat gets accumulated it can cause the system to automatically shutdown along with a blue screen error. Therefore to overcome this, clean the internals of the computer with an air compressor or a piece of cloth.

10. Reinstall Windows


If none of the above methods are working then the last option you may try is reinstalling the windows. Overtime windows can become slowdown and out of performance. This can be a serious problem in the system that cannot be fixed. Therefore the only option for you to overcome this is by deleting everything from the bottom by reinstalling a fresh version of windows.
